Top 5 Everyday Habits That Make Your Body Less Inviting to Cancer

When cancer shows up in the family, fear usually follows. Many people start wondering if they’re doomed to the same fate, as if their genetics have already written the story of their future. That kind of thinking not only creates anxiety, but often leads people to put their faith in drugs, medications, or “quick fixes” instead of realizing that the strongest form of disease prevention actually begins at home—in your kitchen, in your daily choices, and even in the way you think about health.

From an ancestral perspective, this makes sense. Our prehistoric ancestors—long before the arrival of modern processed foods—showed nearly non-existent signs of cancer and chronic disease (we know this from the scientific study of ancient bones). Their environment was free of lab-created “foods” and filled with what our bodies were designed to thrive on: real, whole foods.

Now, here’s the truth that research continues to confirm: while you may inherit genetic weaknesses (toward cancers, allergies, or other conditions), those genes don’t automatically define your future. They’re like switches waiting to be flipped on—but lifestyle stressors are what flip them. The good news? You have far more power than you think to keep those switches off.

I help my clients (Learn more about the Defend Your Future Blueprint) focus on four big levers that move the needle most when it comes to tipping the odds in their favor: Toxins, Movement & Exercise, Eating Window & Fasting, and Nutrient-Dense Foods & Lifestyle (TMEN). When we start chipping away at stress in these four areas, the body becomes a place that cancer hates.

And the beautiful part? It doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are 5 everyday habits you can start today:

1. Move more, sit less

Our modern lifestyle has us glued to chairs, screens, and steering wheels. Just adding more daily movement—walking, stretching, or even doing chores with purpose—signals to your body that it’s alive and thriving. Our natural detoxification pathways rely on full ranges of motion, so try getting your arms above your head and knees above your waist several times each day.

2. Cut out added sugars and sugary drinks

Cancer cells thrive on glucose (from sugars and carbs). By reducing added sugars and processed carbs, you starve cancer of its favorite fuel source while helping your body shift into fat-burning mode (something cancer hates).

3. Get outside 10 minutes in the morning, afternoon, and evening

Your body and circadian rhythm (your immune system needs this rhythm) need natural light. Just a few minutes outside—barefoot (helps align circadian rhythm) in the grass if possible—helps regulate hormones, improve sleep, and strengthen immunity.

4. Reduce daily snacking and stick to 2–3 meals

Constant eating keeps your body in storage mode, never giving digestion or repair processes a chance to work fully and efficiently. Narrowing your eating window allows your digestive system and immune system to do the heavy lifting of cleansing and restoring.

5. Strive for real, single-ingredient foods

Choose foods as close to their natural form as possible. Think single ingredient whole foods like: meats, fish, eggs, fruits, vegetables, fermented foods (sourdough and sour croute), nuts, and seeds. The fewer labels you have to read, the better.

These habits aren’t about living like a caveman. They’re about moving closer to the ancestral spectrum of eating, moving, and living in a way that keeps your body resilient. As you make these changes, you’ll notice some important signs (all of these cancer hates):

  • You can go longer without getting hungry (better fat metabolism).
  • You’ll crave fewer sugary and carby foods.
  • Your digestion improves and stomach irritation fades.
  • Your skin looks clearer and less inflamed.
  • And most importantly—your immune system strengthens in ways cancer hates.

The truth is, anyone can tell you to eat better or move more. But the real gold is in having someone walk alongside you—helping you work through life’s barriers and become your own expert in health. That’s where coaching makes the biggest difference (Apply here to get started).

I know what it feels like to watch cancer steal the people you love. My mom is battling melanoma, I lost my dad and grandma to pancreatic cancer, and most recently lost my grandpa to colon cancer. Those experiences lit a fire in me — I wanted to know if cancer was truly just "genetic fate," or if there was something we could actually do about it. Through my own health struggles, I discovered the power of a primal, sustainable lifestyle: eating real food, moving in ways that build strength, and creating a body that’s far less inviting to disease. Now, I coach people who share the same fears I once had — those with cancer in their family history who want to take back control of their health. My mission is simple: help you defend your future by building a body cancer hates, so you can stack the odds in your favor and live with strength, confidence, and peace of mind.
