The Hidden Cause of Most Cancers

👉 In just 2 minutes, find out if you’re protecting your future or gambling with it: Take the Defend Your Future Quiz

Most people believe cancer is mainly genetic — that if it runs in your family, it’s just a matter of time. But the truth is very different. Research shows that less than 5% of cancers are genetic. The rest? Around 70–75% are caused by toxins we’re exposed to every day, and 20–25% are linked to viruses and infections.

This is actually good news — because it means you have more control than you’ve been led to believe. The real question is: how do we protect our bodies so they’re less inviting to cancer in the first place?

The answer lies in your immune system. When it’s working at its best, viruses and infections don’t stand a chance. But here’s the catch: if your body is bogged down with toxins, your immune system is too busy fighting fires to do its real job of protecting you.

So where are these toxins coming from? Sadly, from the foods most people eat every single day — often without realizing the damage.

The 3 biggest daily offenders

  1. Sugar and hidden carbs
Added sugar and cheap imposters like HFCS flood your body with glucose. Over time, this forces your pancreas to pump out insulin nonstop, leading to insulin resistance — the same “little boy who cried wolf” effect where your cells stop listening to the alarms. This constant sugar overload creates a toxic environment that cancer thrives in.
  2. Seed oils
Highly processed vegetable oils (like soybean, corn, canola, and sunflower) are shelf-stable, cheap to make, and everywhere in our food system. But inside your body, they spark oxidation, damage your cells, and disrupt your ability to burn fat for energy. The result? A body that’s stuck relying on sugar for fuel — fueling the same insulin resistance problem.
  3. Processed grains
Modern grains (and the flours made from them) are stripped of nutrients and loaded with pesticides, chemicals, and antinutrients. Over time, they quietly drain your nutrient stores, cause chronic inflammation, and weaken your immune system.

These three toxins — sugars, seed oils, and processed grains — are the easiest to identify and remove, but also the most overlooked. And until they’re addressed, your immune system can’t operate at full strength.

Health works on a spectrum

Here’s how I like to explain it to my clients: our health and ability to fight cancer and disease works on a spectrum.

  • On one end of the spectrum are our early ancestors — people who lived free of modern processed foods. Cancer and chronic disease were rare, because their immune systems could stand up to the task without being bogged down by toxins.
  • On the other end is the modern hyper-processed lifestyle: sugar drinks, bars, boxed foods, candy, desserts, constant snacking, microwave dinners, and “fortified” junk pretending to be healthy. Living here means a corrupted immune system that can’t ward off cancer or disease.

The truth is, we all live somewhere on this spectrum. It may not be possible to live exactly like our ancestors, but we can get darn close — while still enjoying great-tasting foods and living an awesome life without relying on fast food trips or toxic conveniences.

The takeaway

Cancer isn’t just about “bad luck” or family history. It’s about what your body is exposed to every single day — and whether your immune system is free to do its job. Reducing your toxic load gives your body the breathing room it needs to fight off infections, repair damage, and defend your future.

I know what it feels like to watch cancer steal the people you love. My mom is battling melanoma, I lost my dad and grandma to pancreatic cancer, and most recently lost my grandpa to colon cancer. Those experiences lit a fire in me — I wanted to know if cancer was truly just "genetic fate," or if there was something we could actually do about it. Through my own health struggles, I discovered the power of a primal, sustainable lifestyle: eating real food, moving in ways that build strength, and creating a body that’s far less inviting to disease. Now, I coach people who share the same fears I once had — those with cancer in their family history who want to take back control of their health. My mission is simple: help you defend your future by building a body cancer hates, so you can stack the odds in your favor and live with strength, confidence, and peace of mind.
