Are You Happy With the Results Your Family Is Getting?

👉 Take the Defend Your Future Quiz to discover if you’re stacking the odds in your favor—or if you’re unknowingly repeating your family’s mistakes.

When you look at your family tree, are you happy with the results?

I don’t just mean who inherited Dad’s brown eyes or Grandma’s curly hair. I mean the health results. The outcomes. The diagnoses. The diseases.

For most of my childhood I felt that my family had “good health genetics.” Nobody was dropping dead at 40. People seemed to live a decent amount of time. Sure, there was some arthritis, some extra weight, a few “normal” issues with aging. But overall, we looked… average.

Then I got older. And I realized cancer was plaguing those family members of mine that I thought would be around for many more years. But cancer stole them early.

Cancer. Alzheimer’s. Crohn’s disease. Multiple sclerosis. Arthritis. Suddenly, what I thought was “good health genetics” was really just a long, slow train of chronic disease. And if I didn’t change course, that train was headed straight for me too.

The Truth About Genetics vs. Lifestyle

Here’s the thing nobody tells you: genetics don’t decide your destiny. They only decide how your body will break down under the weight of poor diet and lifestyle choices.

Think about it this way:

  • For one person, genetic weakness shows up as cancer.
  • For another, it’s Alzheimer’s.
  • For someone else, it’s heart disease, Crohn’s, or arthritis.

The root cause is the same: cellular malfunction.

As Raymond Francis explains in Never Fear Cancer Again, all disease boils down to this: your cells stop working properly. And the two biggest reasons cells malfunction? Toxicity and deficiency.

Too much of the wrong stuff (toxins). Not enough of the right stuff (nutrients). It really is that simple.

I hear people say all the time, “Everything causes cancer, you can’t get away from it!”

Remember the spectrum analogy? We may not be able to totally erase all toxins and deficiencies, but I have discovered we can move ourselves along that spectrum far enough so that we don’t express our most devastating genetic weaknesses.

From Ancestral Health to Modern Disease

Let’s zoom out. Imagine another spectrum:

  • On one side, you have our early ancestors. They lived without processed sugar, toxic seed oils, artificial ingredients, or constant snacking. Their immune systems were free to function as designed. Chronic disease and cancer were rare to nonexistent.
  • On the other side, you have today’s lifestyle. Ultra-processed foods. Sugar-sweetened drinks. Constant grazing every couple of hours. Nutrient-stripped grains. Vegetable oils that inflame the body. Environmental toxins on top of it all.

Is it any wonder that modern society is drowning in cancer, heart disease, dementia, autoimmune disorders, and metabolic dysfunction? In other words, our most devastating genetic weaknesses are being expressed.

Your genetics may load the gun. But today’s environment is pulling the trigger.

Somewhere along that spectrum is a spot that will allow you to start tipping the odds in your favor. It is your job as a human, husband, mother, caretaker, whoever, to move in a direction that will help you live a cancer and disease free life.

You need to be your best, right up until the end, that should be your human destiny. Our bodies are designed to live long, and drop dead (as Mark Sisson would say).

Drop dead due to living a long, strong, and healthy life where your body’s natural hour glass ran all the way out. Ran out due to living so many years, not because cancer and disease stole it from you.

Why This Matters for You

If your family history is full of cancer, Alzheimer’s, Crohn’s, MS, or arthritis… are you doing something different than they did?

Because if you’re not, why would you expect a different outcome?

This isn’t about blaming your family. They did the best they could with the knowledge they had. But now we know more. We know that toxicity and deficiency drive disease. We know that lifestyle—not genetics—controls 80–90% of how your health plays out.

So if your family results aren’t what you want for yourself (or your children), then it’s time to make new choices.

Rewriting Your Legacy

You don’t have to accept disease as your destiny. You can defend your future by:

  • Reducing toxicity in your daily life (ditch the processed oils, packaged foods, and artificial junk).
  • Correcting nutrient deficiencies with whole, ancestral foods.
  • Honoring your biology with natural movement, fasting, and restorative sleep.

This is exactly what I coach people through with my TMEN framework—simple, natural strategies that build a body cancer hates and stack the odds in your favor.

Because here’s the bottom line: genetics may whisper what’s possible, but lifestyle shouts what actually happens.

Time to Ask Yourself the Hard Question

Are you happy with the health results your family has been getting?

If the answer is no, then I hope you’re doing something different than they did. Otherwise, you’re just waiting for the same story to play out again—only this time, in your own life.

You can tip the scales. You can break the cycle. You can rewrite your family legacy.

I know what it feels like to watch cancer steal the people you love. My mom is battling melanoma, I lost my dad and grandma to pancreatic cancer, and most recently lost my grandpa to colon cancer. Those experiences lit a fire in me — I wanted to know if cancer was truly just "genetic fate," or if there was something we could actually do about it. Through my own health struggles, I discovered the power of a primal, sustainable lifestyle: eating real food, moving in ways that build strength, and creating a body that’s far less inviting to disease. Now, I coach people who share the same fears I once had — those with cancer in their family history who want to take back control of their health. My mission is simple: help you defend your future by building a body cancer hates, so you can stack the odds in your favor and live with strength, confidence, and peace of mind.
